Course Outline: ENGLISH STUDIES 12* (4 credits)

Course Duration:
You have one calendar year to complete this course from the date of Activation.

  • Poetry/Drama
  • Novel Study/Media

Introduction:

English Studies 12 is a graduation requirement. In addition, it is a pre-requisite for most post-secondary institutions. This course lends itself to interpreting, analyzing, and evaluating idea through various mediums.

Recommended prerequisites:

Although the Ministry of Education does not require a prerequisite for English Studies 12, students who have completed English Studies 11 will find themselves better prepared for this course. For this online course students need to be self-directed learners who are comfortable working independently and are to some degree, computer literate.

All resources except for the novel will be available online.

Evaluation:

Substantive Assignment = 5%
Questions = 25%
Projects = 30%
Writing (Essays/Paragraphs = 40%

Final Blended Mark = 60% School Mark / 40% Provincial Mark*

*Provincial Exam: Students are required to take a Provincial Exam once the course is complete. Provincial Exams are to be written at the students Primary School. Please speak with your school counselor/academic advisor.

Student Responsibilities

Students are expected to log onto the course and submit one assignment each week (or have contact with the instructor). Students who do not log onto the course, or keep in contact with their instructor on a weekly basis, will be viewed as having withdrawn from this online course. If you are active and withdraw from an online course, the Ministry of Education regulations will prohibit you from retaking this online course for two reporting periods.
