Social Studies 12 – 20th Century World History

Course Outline: SOCIAL STUDIES 12 – 20th CENTURY WORLD HISTORY (4 credits)

Course Duration:

You have one calendar year to complete this course from the date of Activation.

Units of Study:

  • Failure of Normalcy: The World after World War 1
  • War in Mid-Century
  • Uneasy Peace: Proxy Wars
  • The Winds of Change

Introduction:

World History 12 introduces you to the history of the 20th century beginning with the treaties that ended World War 1 and ending with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. While studying these events, you will also be learning something of the skills necessary to interpret historical events; how to ensure historical information is accurate and relevant; how to develop historical empathy; and how to present clear, logical arguments based on a knowledge of the events. These skills will be helpful to you throughout life.

Student Responsibilities
Students are expected to log onto the course and submit one assignment each week (or have contact with the instructor). Students who do not log onto the course, or keep in contact with their instructor on a weekly basis, will be viewed as having withdrawn from this online course. If you are active and withdraw from an online course, the Ministry of Education regulations will prohibit you from retaking this online course for two reporting periods.
