Equestrian Academy

Course Outline: EQUESTRIAN ACADEMY 10-12*

Equine Studies 10 (4 Credits) – YAAPS0A-EQ

This is the first-year course that covers equine law, risk management, ground handling, the horse in history, art, film and literature, physiology, breeds, conformation, tack and attire, equestrian facility design and management, competition rules, etc.

Equine Studies 11 (4 Credits) – YAAPS1A-EQ

The second-year course includes digital imaging, pre-purchase examinations, marketing, worming and vaccines, foot physiology, hauling, lunging, etc.

Equine Studies 12 (4 Credits) – YAAPS2A-EQ

The third course encourages critical thinking skills with an analytical Guided Inquiry project on ethical issues facing the horse industry, bandaging, first aid, dentistry, and a “teach the class” project

Independent Directed Studies 12 (4 Credits)

This course enables riders working with their own coach or trainer to earn credit for their riding- assessed by their own coach using a rubric. Non-riders have alternate guided inquiry options. This course may be completed over the duration of the program.

Student Responsibilities: Students are expected to log onto the course and submit one assignment each week (or have contact with the instructor). Students who do not log onto the course or keep in contact with their instructor on a weekly basis, will be viewed as having withdrawn from this online course. If you are active and withdraw from an online course, the Ministry of Education regulations will prohibit you from retaking this online course for two reporting periods.
