Course Duration:

You have one calendar year to complete this course from the date of Activation.

Introduction to Canadian Law

  • Charter of Rights and Freedoms
  • Principles of Law, moral vs legal issues
  • Common Law, statutes, constitutions
  • Canadian court system
  • Dispute resolution

Criminal Law

  • Criminal offence, rights of accused, procedures
  • Sentencing

Civil Law / Contract Law / Family Law

  • Negligence, Torts, Contracts
  • Marriage, Parental rights, Children’s right

Introduction:

The Law 12 course is designed to introduce you to only a few of the aspects of the Canadian Legal System. Law is an essential part of Canada’s culture; without it we could not function effectively I our daily lives.

Social Studies 11

Evaluation:

Substantive Assignment = 5%
Assignments = 353%
Tests = 30%
Book Report = 10%
Final Exam = 20%

Student Responsibilities

Students are expected to log onto the course and submit one assignment each week (or have contact with the instructor). Students who do not log onto the course, or keep in contact with their instructor on a weekly basis, will be viewed as having withdrawn from this online course. If you are active and withdraw from an online course, the Ministry of Education regulations will prohibit you from retaking this online course for two reporting periods.
